Photobooths

August 29th, 2011 by Janie Varisco

Photo booths are the best interactive entertainment and are so much fun! The digital age has resurrected the old, classic style photo booths of the past. Photo booths are becoming very popular and are a huge hit at weddings. A professional photographer captures moments at your event, but photo booths capture your guests being funny and goofy.

Make your wedding or event truly memorable by sending your guests home with a picture. They’ll get an instant printout of their photo booth session that they can take with them right away. For corporate customers, turn that printout into a powerful marketing tool for your brand by putting your name on it. Put your logo on the photo strip or brand the outside of the photo booth and make your visitors remember where their fun photos came from.

A surprising photo booth phenomenon is how many guys like to put on boas, tiaras, and silly hats. Everyone loosens up and gets into the photo booth spirit. And speaking of hats, it’s not every day that men of the lesser hair persuasion have an excuse to cover up the top of their heads for a photo shoot. They seem to love hats the most and don’t mind telling you why.

Now, we all know that when you get your picture taken in a booth you’re supposed to go home with a cool photo strip to hang on the fridge. But lots of guests start walking away from the booth, laughing and joking, without even thinking about the end result. Can it really be that much fun? It looks like it can!

2012 Trends

March 24th, 2011 by Janie Varisco

Forget the Trends – Be Yourself
The top wedding trend for 2010 is personalization. Instead of a cookie-cutter ceremony and reception, the new focus is on customizing the big day for the bride, groom and wedding party. Do you and your future hubby share a special hobby? Whether it’s exotic travel or tennis, find a way to make your passions part of the celebration. Also, the emphasis on individual style includes your bridesmaids. Instead of clones wearing the same dress, shoes and identical updos, try picking a color scheme and giving each bridesmaid the opportunity to choose a dress that shows her personality… and complements yours.

Bright Color, Black Backdrop
For the latest wedding look, the only thing white should be the bride’s wedding dress. Black accents and bright, bold colors are in, for everything from bridesmaid dresses to flowers to table linens. However, if you want a timeless dress for your bridal party, you can always do classic black with vibrant accessories and bouquets.

Earth-friendly “I Do’s”
You can have a sustainable love and a sustainable wedding. Eco-conscious nuptials are all the rage, featuring pre-owned and vintage wedding dresses, LED lighting, recycled paper invitations and locally grown food and flower choices. Couples are making a commitment to each other and the environment with green weddings!

Groomed for Success
Today’s groom not only rocks a tux, he dives into the planning process… and a little man-scaping along the way. As a fashion-conscious guy with a vision for his wedding (or at least a few worthy ideas), he’s jumping online and searching blogs like: The Man Registry, The Plunge, Temple of the Groom, The Groom Says, and Ben the Groom. It’s wedding planning with a healthy shot of testosterone and a great distraction while you go dress shopping.

Easy Ways to Save Money When Planning a Wedding

November 3rd, 2010 by Janie Varisco

Prioritise Your Wants
Both the bride and groom will have ideas in mind as to what constitutes their dream wedding. Together, each one should sit down and decide what is most important to them on their wedding day. Whether it is the location, the venue, the number of guests or the flower arrangements, both bride and groom should separately make a list of their top ten most important items, compare lists, and decide between themselves what they want from their big day, and what to spend their money on.

Look at the Guest List
The highest cost when organising a wedding is often due to the number of invited guests. Often, wedding venues will require a payment ‘per head’, and so the more guests invited, the higher the cost – due to having to choose a larger venue, more food, and a larger cake. The couple should review their guest list closely and think about reducing the numbers who will attend the ceremoy. The bride and groom will need to spend time with each guest on their big day, and this can result in a lot of time spent if the guest list is quite large.

Choose the Right Venue
Choosing the perfect wedding venue can take time, as well as being very expensive. An outdoor wedding often costs much more than an indoor wedding, as the couple count the cost of a rentals, linens, and so on. Often, having the ceremony at a hotel will lead to discounts, if the bride and groom can agree on a deal whereby guests stay at the ame hotel. This can lead to considerable savings. The location of the venue has to be carefully considered, as the cost of hiring the venue can differ greatly dependent upon the area. Therefore, it is highly recommended that the bride and groom-to-be do an extensive and thorough search of potential venues, enabling them to decide upon the
best and most cost-effective location for them.

Invitations and Decorations
Wedding invitations can be very expensive. You can find some great wedding invitations online, one that has a huge range of stock and is very competitively priced. Much is also spent on favors and decorations for the day itself. Flowers can be a source of high cost, even though money can be saved through using silk flowers for all decorations at the table, or perhaps buying fresh flowers in bulk and arranging them yourself.

Food and Drink
Arranging the catering for your wedding is also an area of high expense; however, much money can be saved through simple measures. A buffet-style meal is much more ost-effective than a meal where guests are seated at tables, due to the fact that the costs of the waiters will be included in this package. Similarly, any before or after-dinner foods can be limited to reduce expense. Many weddings have an open bar, which can add thousands to the final cost of the wedding. Instead, the couple can provide their wn signature drink (if the venue permits it), or limit the open bar to wine and beer only.

Tips for an outdoor wedding

April 30th, 2010 by Janie Varisco

So you want to have an outdoor wedding?  Think about what the weather will be like at the time of the year for your outdoor wedding. Sunny and hot? Make sure your guests are hydrated– have your ushers give your guests ice cold bottles of water as they are seated. You may also consider printing your wedding programs on a fan so that guests can cool themselves. Don’t forget to have plenty of sunscreen on hand as well. For a very warm location, look into renting large electric fans (don’t forget a generator) and/or a tent to shade the suns rays.

Always have a back-up plan, always!  What will you do if it rains? The ideal outdoor wedding location has an indoor location waiting just in case. Many brides and grooms opt to have their ceremony outside and reception inside. In case of inclement weather, the tables can be moved to the back of the room during the ceremony. A tent is another option, but only for light rain storms.

When you picture your dream wedding at the beach, you probably haven’t thought of the possible noise.  The roaring of the waves, the rushing wind, or the local kids running and screaming around you. Look into renting a sound system with clip mikes for the bride, groom and officiant. Your DJ or band may be able to easily arrange this for you.

One of the bonuses of an outdoor wedding is the natural beauty around you, which will mean less decorating.   But you still need to do some work. Visit the site a week before your wedding to make sure the grass is mowed, the ground raked, and the flowers have bloomed. If your wedding is at a public park, you may want to ask a friend to do this the morning of your ceremony. If it’s been especially cold, you may need to supplement the flowers with some potted flowers from a florist. Other decorations you may want to consider include an arch to focus the ceremony and frame the bride and groom as they say their vows; strings of lights or lanterns in the trees, luminaries, or torches..

Since alcohol is dehydrating, consider serving a variety of lemonades, teas and punches. Be sure to have plenty of ice and water around as well. For a fancy cocktail, why not serve a classic mint julep or a mojito? The mint will refresh and cool your guests.

Consider timing your outdoor wedding for sunset where your guests will see you take your vows surrounded by the warm glow of the sun. Those having a daytime outdoor wedding should orient the ceremony so that the sun will be on guests’ backs rather than in their eyes.

And most importantly, don’t forget to contact your city parks department or other local government to get a permit for an outdoor wedding. You don’t want to plan this beautiful event only to be shut down due to a lack of permits.  Be sure to ask about rules concerning trash removal, candle or torch lighting, and pre-wedding photography.

Wedding Colors

March 25th, 2010 by Janie Varisco

Your wedding colors will set the tone of your event. I read many articles on the internet and in magazines each week. It still amazes me the broad range of colors out there to pick from. Here are some ideas for you to think about:

Hottest Color: Coral and Gray
Happy: Yellow and Gray
Classic: Red and Black
Modern Classic: Red and Warm Beige
Tropical: Yellow and Golden Orange
Fun: Turquoise and Red
Vintage: Dusty Olive and Pink Champagne

There are several ways to go about choosing your wedding colors. One approach is to choose one main color and to use different shades of that color. You might choose blue and have your bridesmaids wear pale blue dresses; bright-blue delphinium would highlight the bouquets and a grayish-blue paper would be used for invitations and place cards. Another idea that works well is to surround one bright color with neutrals. Perhaps you love the color coral. You might use that color sparingly, accenting it with whites, ivory and tan. Always remember that there are colors that seem to work together better than others.

Preserving Your Wedding Cake

January 4th, 2010 by Janie Varisco

Many couples make a tradition out of freezing their wedding cake for a year and eating it on their one-year anniversary. It is considered good luck and an omen for long life together to preserve the top tier of your wedding cake to eat on your first anniversary. This is a very simple task to accomplish.

Ask a responsible person to take the top layer home. First, this layer should be placed into the freezer immediately to harden the icing. In one to two hours, the cake should be frozen. The cake should then be loosely wrapped in plastic several times and placed into a cake box. The cake box should also be wrapped in plastic, and then placed into the freezer. This will preserve the taste and texture of the cake.

A word of caution: never keep the cake in a frost-free freezer, because the constant defrosting will draw the moisture out of the cake. If you are moving within the year, leave the cake with in a family member or friend’s freezer after the wedding to avoid moving the cake before your anniversary.

When you are prepared to eat your cake on your anniversary, remove the cake from the freezer and thaw in the refrigerator for 48 hours, then place at room temperature for 2 to 3 hours. Your cake will be as beautiful (and tasty) as the day of your wedding!

Choosing the date

October 29th, 2009 by Janie Varisco

There are lots of factors to take into consideration when choosing your wedding date.  You might want a beautiful fall wedding and then realize that the biggest college team will be playing in your hometown.  Wintertime is crisp and cold so remember that all the holiday parties will be in full swing.  If you are getting married in a church you will want to avoid religious holidays.  If you want a specific flower you must make sure they are in season for your special day.  Budget may also affect your choice of dates.  June, August and September are the most popular time to marry, so the prices will be higher,  In some areas of the country Saturday’s will typically cost you a bit more than a Friday.

Look to your own life and schedule for guidance.  Are you a teacher with the summer off?  Are you graduating from college?  Are most of your family and friends traveling in to attend your wedding?  Maybe long holiday weekends such as Labor Day or Memorial Day will suit you better.

Keep in mind that not everyone will be able to attend your wedding no matter what day you pick.  So choose a date that will work with your life.

Wedding Budget

September 30th, 2009 by Janie Varisco

Planning your wedding will probably be the most overwhelming time in your life.  Wedding planners help you save time and money while organizing all of your wedding details.  The number 1 problem that we encounter are brides NOT sticking to a budget.  Lot’s of couples set a budget then decide they need more of everything without keeping their budget in mind.  This is a big mistake!  It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of planning your wedding, but it’s important to stay within your budget.  No one wants to be disappointed when you can’t pay for something you have your heart set on.   A wedding planner is a smart move economically, we know your budget and can help you stick to it.  We can also get more bang for your buck with the vendors as we bring repeat business to them.  Planners are only as good as the vendors we support.
